Drum Corps International marches into Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo

Reprinted from Kalamazoo Gazette staff: -- Twelve marching music ensembles with more than 1,000 performers combined will demonstrate their talents in a Drum Corps International performance starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at Western Michigan University’s Waldo Stadium.

Audience members will be able to watch performances by Kalamazoo’s corps the Legends as well as the Boston Crusaders of Boston; Carolina Crown of Fort Mill, S.C.; The Cavaliers of Rosemont, Ill.; Bluecoats of Canton, Ohio; Phantom Regiment of Rockford, Ill.; Madison Scouts of Madison, Wis..; and Colt Cadets of Dubuque, Iowa.

Many of the ensembles feature up to 150 brass musicians, percussionists and dancers between the ages of 14 and 22. They perform music including classical, jazz, pop and rock melodies.

The four-hour “DCI Kalamazoo” will be one of more than 115 live competitions taking place across the nation as part of the annual Drum Corps International Tour.

The culmination of the tour will be the 2010 Drum Corps International World Championships, taking place Aug. 12-14 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Tickets for “DCI Kalamazoo” start at $25 and can be purchased online at www.dci.org or at the stadium box beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday.
