Reprinted from the Clifton Journal: -- The Hawthorne Caballeros will host their 46th annual drum corps grand prix on Saturday, July 10. The competition and entertainment will start at 6:30 p.m. and be held at the Passaic County Technical Institute, 45 Reinhardt Road, in Wayne. The gates will open at 5 p.m.
The grand prix is a major drum corps competition in the New Jersey area with participating groups from all over the East Coast. The competitors in the event will be judged as part of the 2010 DCA (Drum Corps Associates) season with several awards, including the Drum Corps Grand Prix Champion, up for the taking.
The Hawthorne Caballeros from Hawthorne have a fascinating history based on a North American tradition and a future that is committed to the performing arts, youth education and entertainment.
Today, drum and bugle corps' are a worldwide community with the Hawthorne Caballeros recognized as the most famous drum and bugle corps in the world. Modern drum and bugle corps are entertainers and fierce – but friendly – competitors.
The competing groups will present their 2010 repertoire which will provide an exciting evening of musical and visual entertainment. Each competing corps presents a unique interpretation of their program that will be judged on musical, visual, marching and artistic expertise.
The competing corps includes Fusion Core from Dover; the Bushwackers from Harrison; the Buccaneers from Reading, Pa.; and the Hawthorne Caballeros.
The Brassmen Alumni Drum Corps; the Raiders Jr. Drum and Bugle Corps from Wayne; Park City Pride from Bridgeport, Conn.; the Skyliners Alumni Corps from N.Y. and the Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni Corps, will appear in exhibition for your enjoyment.
